Habitat and Pollinator Gardens

Our Greenways offer many native habitats throughout but we also maintain landscapes and gardens that serve as a tapestry for native plants and havens for wildlife, designed, developed, and managed to promote biodiversity and to demonstrate lessons in sustainability and conservation. These spaces also allow volunteers to learn more about managing native plants and habitats.

Ruffner Mountain Habitat Gardens

These habitat gardens located at the East Lake/Nature Center entrance of Ruffner Mountain mimic the geological and ecological zones of the mountain and adjacent forests. The gardens provide visitors with close-up views of nature and are developed and maintained to protect and enhance the benefits we derive from healthy ecological systems.

Turkey Creek Nature Preserve Pollinator Garden

This garden is located at the exit and back entrance of Turkey Creek Nature Preserve and displays various plant species valuable to pollinators. Before you leave the preserve be sure to check out the many butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators that frequent these flowering plants.

Red Mountain Park Pollinator Garden

This garden was established by a homeschool group in 2017. This space provides a diverse native plant habitat for the conservation of local species and creates an environment that is attractive and accessible for observation, education, and meditation. It also hosts creative and informative mailboxes about the garden, its plants, and the ecology.
